Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports in a Structured Online Class
Participants will learn what the PBIS system of behavior management is and how it differs from a traditional discipline-based approach.
Participants will learn the value of positive relationships along with some effective strategies for building relationships with students and staff.
Positive contact refers to the intentional act of engaging positively with all students, at high frequencies, with consistency.
Establishing classroom rules and expectations provides the stable foundation students need to be successful in class.
Participants will learn what positive reinforcement is and how to use it to guide behavior.
Participants will learn what motivates students’ behavior and how to reinforce desired behaviors.
Developing and displaying location posters is an essential strategy to help students learn the rules and expectations in a particular setting.
Establishing procedures enhances the structure and predictability of an afterschool program. They help students and adults know what is expected of them.
Active supervision is a proactive strategy for behavior management and is an important component of PBIS.
Participants will learn how to remind and reinforce to help students learn appropriate behavior.
Pre-correction is defined as a proactive and problem solving strategy to address potential issues before they become a problem.
Participants will learn the difference between nuisance behavior and problem behavior, and what are appropriate responses to each behavior.
Participants will learn specific research based strategies for dealing with problematic behaviors.
All teachers will have to use negative consequences to help guide behavior at some point.
